We need a symposium to understand and regulate robots, but not a moratorium. Why stop development of these machines that offer advanced societies a realistic means to deal with extremism. How long shall we remain helpless to the radical nuts of the world? We have the superior technology and we should use it.
Our robots can go in harm's way and deal these fanatics the blow they deserve. It is they who have taken to harm society en masse, and in so doing, it is they who have abandon the rights and privileges society affords us. Ditto for those that linger around them; limited opportunity does not permit us to deal with them any better.
As for accountability, robots are computers and their every move is recorded and can be traced back to us. And being machines they have no anger or vengeance; nor pity or mercy. They carry out their tasks methodically, consistently, and predictably. And they are faster -- nay in many things far better -- than any human around.
So why call for a moratorium?
Robots should be implemented at full speed ahead -- as they actually are.
They offer society an opportunity to fashion a safer, predictable, accountable, and yes, ultimately, a more just world.
